About Us

“Hello” and “Welcome” are two words often used here at Hazelwood.

We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, where our guiding principle is found in our statement of identity:

“We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”

If you are seeking a place of worship and a church family, you are wholeheartedly invited to come and join us at 10 am on Sundays. We will meet you with a “Hello!” where you are and extend the hand of Christian fellowship.

We take our relationships with each other seriously. We take scripture seriously, as authoritative, and, with interpretation and understanding, as a guide for fruitful and meaningful lives. We celebrate God’s creation and our place within it. We come to the Lord’s Table (celebrate communion) every week in worship.

One of our “slogans” is:
“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love.”

Come and be welcomed! Come and know that you are loved just the way you are! Come to Hazelwood!

CommUNITY 2026

In these divisive times, the simple practice of recognizing that we are all in this together becomes ever more important. Our voices do not need to echo the stridency which fractures one from another so often found in the chambers of governance and in the media and even shouted by neighbors. Rather, our voices should declare a different way that celebrates that we are all made in the image of God.

CommUNITY recognizes difference as essential for the flourishing of all human beings, while at the same time giving voice to the web of interconnectedness which binds us one to another. CommUNITY also recognizes that the Hazelwood church community is itself nestled in a larger community of our neighborhood, city, and world. CommUNITY calls us to be inviting neighbors. CommUNITY calls us to be of service TO our neighbors as an expression of Christ’s love for all.

As the writer and theologian Rachel Held Evans wrote, “But the gospel doesn’t need a coalition devoted to keeping the wrong people out. It needs a family of sinners, saved by grace, committed to tearing down the walls, throwing open the doors, and shouting, ‘Welcome! There’s bread and wine. Come eat with us and talk.’ This isn’t a kingdom for the worthy; it’s a kingdom for the hungry.”
