Preschool

Hazelwood Christian Preschool is a Registered Child Care Ministry on Level 3 of the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Paths to Quality program and is certified through the CCDF (Child Care Development Fund) and VCP (a voluntary, quality enhancement program administered for unlicensed registered ministries to meet the equivalent program standards as licensed providers).

We believe educational experiences grounded in scripture are the cornerstones that help children define values that can be applied to daily living. All children are blessed with God-given capabilities to learn, and it is our responsibility to nurture their talents through an environment that encourages spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. We strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can express their individuality while providing a variety of educational experiences to enhance their development.

Preschool Classes

Our curriculum is based on age-appropriate practices geared to the individual child’s developmental needs. We emphasize the children’s relationship to nature and other human beings and build our curriculum upon themes that correlate with the time of the year and the children’s daily routine activities.

The daily schedule includes:

  • Informal playtime where children may choose from the 10 learning centers to engage in
  • Teacher-guided lessons
  • Both small and large group activities
  • Opportunities for both fine and gross motor development
  • Snack time

2/3 Class

For students who will be 2 years old by August 1, this class meets on either Tuesday or Wednesday from 9-11:30 am.

In our 2/3 Class, we focus on giving our students the experience of becoming part of a group while sharing, taking turns, making friends, and developing language. The students create many projects throughout the year that help to strengthen their fine motor skills, such as coloring, cutting, shapes, numbers and counting, and, eventually, writing. They learn stories and songs with a Christian emphasis and are introduced to the world of science through experiments.

Tuition, paid in 9 monthly installments, is $80 per month. A non-refundable registration fee of $80 is due at the time of registration.

3/4 Class

For students who will be 3 years old by August 1, this class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, either in the morning from 9-11:30 am or in the afternoon from 12:30-3 pm. Children in this class must be potty-trained.

In our 3/4 Class, we focus on group participation, beginning writing skills, self-awareness, and the development of individual creativity through activities using a variety of materials and techniques. The students learn how to form letters and numbers and how to write their names. They also learn stories and songs with a Christian emphasis.

Tuition, paid in 9 monthly installments, is $130 per month. A non-refundable registration fee of $130 is due at the time of registration.

4/5 Class

For students who will be 4 years old by August 1, this class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, either in the morning from 9-11:30 am or in the afternoon from 12:30-3 pm.

In our 4/5 Class, we focus on kindergarten readiness and peer relationship development. Through the use of a variety of manipulatives, games, and other activities, students begin to develop a base of understanding that enables a comfortable transition into their kindergarten experience. Students experience learning sight words, rhyming, and forming upper-case and lower-case letters using phonics to pronounce words. They also learn stories and songs with a Christian emphasis.

Tuition, paid in 9 monthly installments, is $165 per month. A non-refundable registration fee of $165 is due at the time of registration.

Transition Class

For students who have completed or are attending the 4/5 Class but who may not yet be ready for kindergarten or for students interested in a preschool experience that focuses more on academics and a more structured environment, this class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am-1:30 pm and is more of a full-day kindergarten experience. This class is for students who will be 4 years old by August 1 and will only be offered if we have a minimum of 6 students.

Our Transition Class is an academic-based program, teaching from a curriculum based on the Common Core Standards for kindergarten. There is a strong emphasis on reading, phonics, and writing skills. At times, this class follows a similar curriculum (letters, units of study) as the 4/5 Class, but with a focus on following Language Arts skills (letter recognition, letter sounds, letter formation, phonemic awareness, concept of print, beginning reading skills using emergent readers, and invented spelling) and Math skills (number recognition, number formation, patterns, 2-D and 3-D shapes, graphing, measuring, and beginning addition/subtraction concepts). Assessments allow us to form small, guided reading and writing groups, leading the students toward a more responsibility/self-help skills approach. This enables the teacher to work more one-on-one with the students according to their skill level.

Tuition, paid in 9 monthly installments, is $285 per month. A non-refundable registration fee of $285 is due at the time of registration.

Extended Learning Center

Our Extended Learning Center provides a safe, fun, and educational environment for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Activities in the Extended Learning Center include a wide range of fine and gross motor skills, story time, science, music, and movement. There are opportunities for both independent and group play with a wide variety of educational toys. We offer indoor and outdoor recess time, as weather permits. Breakfast and morning and afternoon snacks are provided. Parents have the option of purchasing a school lunch for their child or sending a sack lunch. Milk is served for breakfast and lunch.

Our three age-based classrooms allow us to focus on developmentally appropriate activities while providing a place to share God’s love and enhance social skills through play. Our Infant Classroom is for children 6 weeks-12 months old, our Toddler Classroom is for children 1-2 years old, and our PreK Classroom is for children 3-5 years old.

Enrollment in our Preschool program is not necessary to participate, however, we do offer discounts to those families that have their child enrolled in both Preschool and the Extended Learning Center. We offer full-time and part-time rates to suit your needs.
